PatientFYI Interview
How does your office help a patient understand their costs for Services, payment plan options, or use of their dental insurance?
During our visit we first review our patient's concerns, then a detailed exam is performed and the results reviewed with the patient. A detailed treatment plan is presented to our patient explaining the services required and fees associated with that service. We estimate insurance contribution based on the patient's insurance plan and our over twenty years of experience filing insurance on behalf of our patients. Our payment plan options include, but are not limited to, Care Credit. With Care Credit we usually find a payment profile that our patients are very comfortable with.
How do you educate your patients about the treatments they need and how to keep problems from reoccurring?
Every recall or "check visit" includes a preventive oral cancer screen, intra and extra oral exams. We check the health of the gums, existing restorations and take radiographs only when indicated. With this level of understanding about each patients oral health status it is easy for us to relate this information using our paperless computer enhancements and computerized digital radiographs. Home care is stressed and demonstrations on proper bushing, flossing and diet are reviewed with our patients. Helping our patients understand the importance and benefits of a good home care regimen has proven extremely helpful in maintaining a high level of dental health for our patients.
What do you do when there are multiple treatment options available for a patient's dental condition?
It has been our experience that there is almost always more than one way to approach the repair or restoration of a dental "problem". It is always our goal to present these options to our patients. As each patient and each dental condition is unique, each "option menu" is also unique. We assist our patients with first understanding the status of their present dental condition and then explore the different options with them. This includes treatment, number of visits, fees, expected insurance reimbursement and level of comfort they can expect as a result of each option.
What labs do you use for your restoration services (e.g. Crowns & Bridges) and do you provide patients with a choice of labs?
We use several labs for the restoration services we offer to our patients. We have even had the opportunity to visit some of them and tour the facilities. I am please to report that they passed our "white glove" test with flying colors. These labs include, but are not limited to , Kelley Dental Lab (, Gold Dust Dental Lab ( and Keating Dental Arts (
What kind of sedation & comfort techniques do you utilize?
We have found the most apprehensive patient becomes a life long one with our relaxed and friendly approach that begins with entering our office. We spend whatever time is required by our patients getting to know not just their dental needs but them, as people. It has been our experience that this makes a big difference in relaxing patients and making them feel at home. For the extreme anxious patient we do offer nitrous oxide and and prescription medication to relax our patients.
Do you treat children and, if so, how do you help them feel comfortable?
We treat children of all ages. Many parents bring their toddlers with them. Often the children will look on and see that Mommy and daddy are comfortable and like where they are and what is going on. From there we may even take a quick look, especially while mom or dad are receiving treatment. This allows us to detect a problem in an very young child prior to it becoming a painful one for that child. We play games with the children counting teeth. We have child sized sunglasses and "goodies" for them to select at the close of their visit. Always a favorite are the little rubbery lizard and frogs that can stick to the walls or ceiling ( not to worry they do not leave marks).
What is your Appointment Cancellation Policy?
We request 24-hours notice if you need to cancel your appointment. We are aware that unforeseen events sometimes require missing an appointment. After missing your second appointment without notifying us 24 hours in advance, you are subject to being charged an additional fee.
